There is so very little of genuine worth on television today — PLEASE don’t make that list of “worthies” one fewer by cancelling “Home Fires”. Here in America, we don’t get the quality of programming that our sisters in the U.K. Do; we depend on our PBS stations to bring us these types of drama.
The first season had a consolidated average rating of 6.2 million viewers to date and a 24 per-cent share. June 2015, ITV announced that it had ordered a second season of the programme. Samantha Bond was nominated for an award from the Satellite Awards. Season 2 met with similar success compared with Season 1 as the premiere episode gained 5.2 million overnight views, with the second episode reaching 4.7 million views.

It only truly bursts into life when it ignites an audience’s imagination, as they develop a relationship with the characters – empathising with some, identifying with others, reviling Bob! In that sense it’s the audience’s show as much as ours, and that’s what I think they want to voice at the moment. For a writer who stares out of the window for 90% of his working life the reaction has been very affirming. Even though Season 2 of Home Fires ended with a cliffhanger, there will be no more episodes in the series. The producers had originally intended on producing a third season—and maybe even continuing it beyond that—but the show was cancelled in the UK.
The audience’s reaction to the news of the cancellation has been stunning. Everyone on the show – and at the channel – has worked very hard to have the audience emotionally invest in the characters and what they’re going through, and they’ve done that fantastically week after week. They’ve genuinely taken the show to their hearts and then suddenly it’s as if they’ve received a breakup text out of the blue, simply saying, ‘Thanks.

The Spitfire question is one that gets some people hot under the collar but let me say that there are less than 50 Spitfires still in one piece. I know, I saw them at Goodwood last year and they are breathtakingly impressive, still. It is nearly 80 years since the Battle of Britain and given how many sorties the RAF was involved in between then and 1945 it is not surprising that there is such a small pool of planes to choose from. Unfortunately for us, no one in 1940 thought of tucking one away in a hangar for 75 years so we could film in 2015.
The fan’s reaction to-date has led Home Fires executive producer Francis Hopkinson to begin looking in to options to keep the period drama alive. While we wait for Season 2 to air on PBS Masterpiece in the US, the second series has concluded in the UK, and apparently with a major cliffhanger of an ending. A battered wife, she has been a victim of her husband Bob's physical and verbal abuse for many years. She makes every effort to keep him happy, but remains with him out of fear, lying about and making apologies for his behavior. Spencer takes a fancy to Claire after coming to her rescue in a bicycling accident. He is cheery and supports the WI's new form. An aspiring author following the minor success of his first book.
For the time being though, it feels doubtful that we will ever see anything more of the show on television. I’m appalled and devastated that Home Fires has been cancelled. It was so enjoyable, well written-better script than Downton. There are so many awful programmes on TV.

It’s therefore quite unfortunate to see the show go. We understand that such a comparison is rather unfair, given that American viewers are far more divided thanks to a much larger array of viewing options, but the show still produces good ratings. Willow and Thatch loves period dramas from the Georgian/Regency, Victorian and Edwardian eras, and beyond. After two series, ITV have made the decision not to renew the period drama led by Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis. An online petition calling for its return has over 11,500 signatures and the Women's Institute has thrown its weight behind the campaign. Home Fires is a series that many people like, principally for fans of drama and war, of the year 2015.

It is such a fabulous show , wonderful story and actors. It’s too bad that all the garbage seems to stay on tv and you take a wonderful show off. It’s so disappointing when you find such a quality program then have it cancelled after you had become so emotionally invested in its characters and stories. Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.
And it has created a narrative and lives which now seem hung in mid-air. Surely there couldn’t be anything better acted. I want to know what happened to the characters. The reasons for cancelling it can’t have been due to the show itself. I hope that someone has the power to re-consider the decision. What people like me forget at our peril is that without the audience a show like Home Fires doesn’t really exist, except on a shelf somewhere in an unlit room.

It vividly illustrates how the “Greatest Generation”banded together for the good of their country and communities. The bravery and commitment of the British public during WWII was so heroic and inspirational that the history of that period must be preserved for future generations in every way possible. Please please please bring back series three of home fires like me and I know all of my friends are desperate to know how it ends.
I am so disappointed that Home Fires has been cancelled. I hope that someone will reconsider and bring back this show. The characters were so developed and refine. You don’t get that kind of character development in newer historical films. The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain.
Massive preemptive public safety power shutoff events have been controversial. While large areas were without power for days, people in fire danger areas had trouble getting information, and critical life support equipment would not work without backup power. In the final episode of the first series, Bob leaves for London, leaving Pat relieved and happy to be away from him, whilst Joyce leaves for the coast.
